No doubt about that Wing! "Small and Ugly" being the slogan. The chick "wow"ing at the end of each promo was flipping hilarious :-* Imagine if in the upcoming Super Bowl that a carmaker debuted a new model with the same tag line....small and ugly. It could be a grand salami!

I'm thinking not many of the guys here would want to take that little critter off road! If you hit an empty beer can you'd be toast. You could buy a base model VW Bug for about $1800 in 1968. I think I would have coughed up the extra bucks for the Bug.

SUBARU

SU - BA - RU

Their pronunciation may sound foreign, but it's closer to the proper pronunciation of Subaru's name with a Japanese accent than the current manner in which Subaru is pronounced in English-speaking countries.

As for early Subaru stuff...

Quote:
watch a clip from the 1978 movie Double Clutch, featuring two vintage Subarus duking it out!

We have no idea what the rest of the movie is about, but in this clip the bad guy makes his escape in a rally-inspired Subaru Leone RX. Our hero is forced to jump into a four door Leone and give chase. When the pursuit veers off road, the director even gets a close up shot of him shifting into 4WD mode. Hows that for product placement?

Other things to notice: the groovetastic 70s soundtrack, a Nissan Cherry X-1R in the background, and the wakaba mark on the heros car. Well, what are you waiting for? Hit play and sit back for six minutes of pure Subie car chase action!
Do note that the Subaru Leone RX that is running away is an extremely-rare variant of the Subaru Leone, as it has a twin-carb EA series engine, a detuned roadgoing version of the one Subaru used to enter the grueling Safari Rally.

Most EA engines either came with a single carb or fuel injection. This is before the Leone RX nameplate was exclusively used to designate turbocharged Subaru Leone models (such as the Subaru Leone RX Turbo).
In summary, the Leone RX was initially a twin-carb Leone model, but then became the Leone RX Turbo as Subaru moved on from the twin-carb setup to step up to a fuel-injected, turbocharged setup.
