Nothing special, but I added some stock Aero Crossbars. I regretted not ordering them with the vehicle when I first bought it. I have no immediate need for them, but I like the utility value should I have a need for them.
I had intentions of installing mine... but I just never got around to buying the Torx bits to install them. What accessories do you intend to install on them?
I live in the northeast and drive my Subaru Crosstrek to get myself reliably from place to place in any weather condition. I don't go off-road with it and probably won't be making any major mods to it. I was simply trying to contribute to the conversation and figured that I posted in the correct forum. It's my second Subaru which I just purchased earlier this year and was happy with the new option. Didn't mean to bore anyone.
It's all good arnie! I actually didn't mean any negativity toward your post. I just didn't have anything useful to reply with. Glad to see you have the bars, they go along way for hauling crap. I was just giving hammerhead some food for thought.
A new question for those of you with the aero crossbars. Has anyone carried a canoe or kayak on them?
My wife and I just bought a new Hobie Oasis kayak that is 14'-6" long and the crossbars are only 30" apart, that leaves a lot of kayak hanging off of each end.
I have the Aero bars and have carried my daughter's kayak with no problem, but then hers is only 10' long. My guess is the sturdy Aero bars themselves are up to the task but the differences would be with the specific mounting method you choose. I just have simple foam blocks and tie-down straps. With your longer kayak, maybe mounting brackets would be a better choice?
i don't often carry a canoe or kayak, but strapping down the bow and the stern to the corners of the bumper or hood, is a safer setup than relying on the crossbars. (i'm assuming that your kayak has something to attach to at each end.)
i bought real subaru crossbars with my crosstrek, and i have a couple of pool noodles from the dollar store that i sliced open lengthwise as bumpers on them.
there are lots of 3rd-party tiedown systems available, just google something like "kayak t-strap tiedown".
