Default Roof rack/cargo basket saviour!

Hey everyone,
Over the past 2 yrs, here in the rural area in VA where I live, we have been subjected to some pretty powerful windstorms. Just yesterday while driving home from work a pretty good sized branch broke off and hit my XV. This is the 3rd time that a “large” branch has hit my cargo basket and NOT my roof in 2 yrs.
All 3 hits have been hard enough to slightly dent the rack. So you KNOW my roof would be very dented by now if it wasn’t for that roof/cargo basket.
This rack has been the greatest accessory I’ve gotten for this car. It’s saved my XV from some pretty significant damage. (Initially got the rack/cargo basket for looks. (I am only 5’5.75” and can’t use it anyway. LOL!))

Just thought I’d share that tid-bit.
Have a great weekend!
GET OUT AND DRIVE!
-Keith

Great story Keith. Thanks for sharing it. Every think has it's purpose I guess. We just have to find it.

I know...it's been crazy around here. But it's AMAZING to me that all 3 times NO PLACE else on the XV has been struck but the rack!!!
(Last year's strike did smash the windshield on the passenger's side after it broke in half from the initial hit.)
Yet during the 2012 derecho our vehicles were the ONLY things that weren't damaged by the wind.

So go figure!

I kept my cargo rack off for a while for the fuel efficiency boost... but maybe on long trips, where having a working safe vehicle is crucial to getting around, I should slap the thing back on...
