Default WARNING - Air valve covers - DON'T BUY ALUMINUM!!

Good day...wanted to give you a heads-up to a costly problem that I caused.
I bought some new air valve covers. They were red in colour with a red Subaru insignia. Looked great!
Last week my low tire pressure light came on. I was due for an oil change so I brought in Friday. Well those new aluminum covers did not interact well with the metal of the air valve stem when mixed with with salty-snow from the road.
Dealership could not get them off!
They tried every crazy-arse youtube trick out there. These were not budging. Actually damaged 2 of the valves in the attempt. So I had to buy a new set of tires!!! The "old" set only had 2000 miles on them!!! Two of the air pressure regulators had to be replaced too. (But the dealership covered them for me.)

SO DON'T USE ALUMINUM AIR VALVE COVERS!! (But if you do, use some kind of water-proof grease, or a plumber's tape.)
Regards,
Keith

Wait... WHY would they need to replace the TIRES??

I understand the valves, but the tires themselves??

Something about the seal seat being damaged. (I had tried myself to get these off with pliers.) So between myself, and then their efforts, all of the tires were damaged internally.
I will say that the dealership paid for half of the price. I'm more that happy with them.

Uuum!!! I'm with StupidChicken on this one. Since the valve stem doesn't touch the tire....I'm at a loss here.

Hmmm....I'll have to go back to them, when I have time, and check into it further. I've never had an issue with this dealer. And the service manager has ALWAYS treated me fairly.
But I will ask him.
Thanks for all of your input!

Iíll add another vote. You can post this story on any of the tire manufacture Facebook pages and they will tell you the dealer screwed you. Your lucky they didnít say your wheels were bad.
