Default headlights wtf

So we just bought a 2016 crosstrek hybrid and it came with the automatic headlights. I've been trying to use them but for some reason when we pull into the garage they do not shut off with the car.

Does anyone else have this issue? I have no idea if it's on a timer or something I end up turning the lights off all together or turning to always one and turning the car back on and off to shut them off. Its super frustrating.
Also, the dash screens are either too bright or too low. during the day with the lights on if you set dash light to anything but all the way up they are too low and aren't bright enough for the ambient lighting. but after dark they are eyeburners, especially the radio (6.2) , which is supposed to change to a night theme but it is not. anybody have an idea of what the deal is?

I don't have a 2016, but I'm assuming the lighting should be similar to my 2013.

If the headlight dial is set to AUTO, then there is a delay between when you turn off the vehicle and get out, before the lights actually shut off. Kind of a courtesy thing so you have light as you are walking away from the vehicle in the dark. They should eventually go off after exit with the doors fully closed.

I have the same annoyance with the dash during the day with the lights on as well. Just turn the brightness knob to the highest setting during the day and it engages a "pseudo" day mode.

As for the radio, mine has different night settings. I have it linked to headlights so that when they come on, the radio turns on the dark theme. I'd look at those settings and then make sure your dark theme is actually a dark theme.

Again, I'm just assuming things are similar as I have the 2013.

The headlights are on a timer. But if you push the lock button on the key fob twice they will shut off then. It is a safety device.

i wish i could have the radio use the light sensor and just leave the headlights on all the time. I don't remember it being this way with the 2012 impreza we had but that was a much simpler radio than this one, it also worked better sadly, the bluetooth would actually work for instance.

Personally, my 7" head unit works great with bluetooth. But I use a samsung device, which is good since Apple is notoriously picky when syncing. I know that the head unit I got is more powerful and has a lot more functionality than the standard one too.

fwiw, if you park and stay in the car and the headlights stay on, click the headlight switch to "off" and back to "auto", and they will stay off until you start the car.

likewise, after you get out and lock the car, they will stay on for about 30(?) seconds and go off automatically. but if you press the remote lock a second time, they go off immediately. (a 3rd time and the horn will beep.)
