Thumbs up Exterior airbag for pedestrians standard on 5th gen JDM Subaru Impreza

Subaru pedestrian protection airbag (all models as standard) The new Impreza

So this may very well be the future of Subaru's pedestrian safety. Subaru has already implemented lots of empty space in the front bumper and hood/bonnet to reduce injury to pedestrians hit in front, but this is a completely NEW method of pedestrian safety

Expect this same feature to be on the XV/Crosstrek if the feature does make it to North America.

Does it protect the car too? Hitting an animal or human can cause MUCH damage to a vehicle. If all it does is protect pedestrians, than what's the point? All it will do is cause the vehicle's cost to go up!! (Something this innovative will not add a small amount to the consumer. (And you know Subaru is certainly not going to absorb it!))

Instead of wasting resources in protecting pedestrians, Subaru should fix their sh*t paint problems! (Just saying)

I think the cost of an injured/deceased life may exceed the cost of the pedestrian airbag, so I don't see a problem with it. Heck, our vehicles already have knee air bags.

Though I must admit, I was a little disappointed to see a big chip on my hood with a rust spot already
