I'm not sure it's relevant to the AWD crowd. With the aid of traction control, symmetrical AWD, and a lack of power, I can see why flooring a Subaru might work out. Typically though, spinning is a bad thing in sand and there is no reason for it. Spinning is great in most muddy situations as you want to keep the treads clear. Spinning in sand typically buries you or at least makes the vehicle work harder than it has to.
