Default Black Crosstrek in Savannah

My wife and I just sold our 2003 Outback and bought a Crosstrek. We are a one car household and do a fair amount of sea kayaking. Our primary criteria for replacing the Outback were the ability to get >30" of crossbar spread without using door clips, a low roof height, AWD, and some extra ground clearance. Crosstrek, XC70, Forester, and a few others all would have worked, but we liked the low roof line of the Crosstrek and the relatively utilitarian interior that comes with the Popular Package 1 and 2. You can see from the picture below that with Yakima crossbars at their maximum spread on the roof rails I have some 32-33" or so, enough to get straps around either side of a keyhole cockpit on a sea kayak.

Came to a deal with a dealership on Monday, picked up the car Friday, and was using it to cart kayaks to the beach on Sunday.

Welcome to the SE Subaru Community. We love our XV and only hit up Savannah every so often. We have seen only a handful between Beaufort County and Savannah, so enjoy her.

Welcome to the club! Great looking crosstrek, and great looking kayak! The low roofline was a key reason my wife and I got the crosstrek as well.

Welcome to the boards, Stephen, the Crosstrek looks great. I've never done sea kayaking myself despite growing up on the beach, but I've always wanted to try. Looks like a blast.

Thank you for signing up.

I haven't gotten my kayak yet up on the roof yet so it is good to know that the spread on the crossbars works out good. I expect to finish building my kayak this month and then will be trying it out myself!

Thanks for the welcome folks, I appreciate it!

Hector4Christ: congrats on building the kayak -- is it a stitch & glue, stripper, skin-on-frame, or something else? That's an exciting project with a big payoff when you're done - tell us more! Do you use a greenland paddle or a euro blade?

Best,
Stephen
