My understanding is that gasket issue has been resolved in the past year or two and shouldn't be an issue on the XV.

Either way, that kind of warranty should be fantastic, and hopefully doesn't come into play too much.

I believe this is the case.

Also, I don't think it was a problem with Subaru engines specifically, but all inline engines in general. It's because the head gasket sits vertical instead of horizontal I believe. I may be waaaaay wrong, though.

Here is a link explaining the issue with Subaru engines. The problem dates to 1998 and continued until around 2008. Subaru corporate recommended to me that a Subaru specific antifreeze be used anytime the coolant is flushed.

Sorry it is allwheeldriveauto dot com - on the search look for the articles parts 1 and 2. It seems the issues with the head gasket were different in 1998 and early years as compared to later years. Parts 1 and 2 explain all this.
