Default Picked Mine Up Yesterday

Hello all. Traded in 2006 Explorer for my XV and picked up yesterday. So far loving it; works great so far this 28 year old Wisconsinite. Will be used for camping, kayaking and hauling my 4 year old on exciting daily driver missions....

Went with the CVT after going back and forth with 5spd... decided I like the CVT more; like the constant consistency of power and I read the paddles are a blast after the break in. Also my wife's '08 Focus is a 5spd and I was used to it's shorter shift throws.

Got a black Premium with the PP1. Planning on the sport mesh grille and the trailer hitch for my jet ski.

Any other XV's in the Southern Wisconsin area?

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new XV! I have to admit... the CVT threw a curveball to me when I drove it for the first few days. Unlike a 'regular' auto in every way. I had to relearn (adjust ) my driving habits for the CVT. Now it's truly a joy to drive and a blast with the paddles!!!!

Congratulations, sounds like you know what you want out of it.

I tell everyone who's looking for a trailer hitch this, but I'd look at an aftermarket Curt or Torklift rather than the Subaru hitch. You'll save $200+ and not be restricted to 1.25" hitch.

Is it just a bolt on? I imagine there's just a y harness that ties into the lights... I'll do it myself if its that easy. I should probably make a new post for this :-)

Not sure which one you're asking about, but...

The Subaru hitch is 1.25" only. It costs $450-ish before labor and requires removal/replacement of the rear bumper and cutting of the bumper fascia.

I can't say for sure how the Curt ($150-ish) installs, but my understanding is that it installs pretty similarly to the Torklift ($250 - my thread with information on the Torklift and a link to the install instructions).

When I installed mine, it was technically a 'no drill' install, but it did require widening of two holes near the spare tire to fit a couple nuts/bolts through. Not too big a deal to me, though they recently released a true no drill install - but I believe that requires removal of the bumper (not 100% sure, I haven't checked the instructions).

If you ask me, the Curt and TL would each be easy enough to install. They each have 1.25" and 2" options. They'll both handle whatever load you throw at them. Main differences being the TL is hidden when not in use and doesn't decrease your clearance at all. The Curt sits just below the rear bumper fascia (as most hitches do).
