Default Offroading in North Georgia!

Hello Club Crosstrek! I had yesterday off so I scheduled my first oil change with the dealer. I asked that they show me the oil drain plug under the vehicle so they did. The mechanic put in fresh oil and filter a gave my XV a clean bill of health. Wow it felt so smooth. The service guy asked if I wanted a free car wash. I said sure! But it wouldnt be clean for long....

Look at the horizon above the car in front of me....see the mountains! Thats where I'm going. I wanna park on top of one of those.

Getting closer! The mountain range is in full view. Almost there...

The leaves are starting to change colors. Fall is here. Good stretch of uphill gravel here.

I turned on to Hawk Mountain road. The XV asended without any fuss. This vehicle really pulls. There is a clearing at the top...http://goo.gl/maps/ORAEy

I really wanted to drive to the tip top but this was the final stretch...

Time to start thinking about skid plates!! You could see scrape marks and lots of rubber on some of those rocks (pics are too small). I think the XV could handle it, but I like to keep my new car in one piece and dent/scratch free for now thanks. Really want skidplates bad now.
Especially for this section:

I decided to hike up the rest of the way. At the top on the mountain is a concrete desigantion of "G 23" there was a foundation of an old tower up there and several nice camp sites.

A big, cool looking rock

Reach your hand in there I dare you:

I hiked back down and did a little more wheeling:

Continued...

I went back down Hawk Mountain and back tracked to Jones Creek. It was beautiful back in there and had some nice challenging spots...

I guess I could install a hitch right here.

The XV can handle it no problem..

Trout stream and waterfall...

Aww, Its my baby's first water crossing...

Now its her third time and she stopping for glamor shots!

View from the cabin. I love the Georgia mountain habitat.

The XV never slipped. Not even once.

I found a snake skin in the ditch... Must have been a big one. I never seen a completely intact skin before. Usually they are in pieces. Pretty cool.

On the way out I was flying on a down hill section pretending to be a wannabe rally driver and almost nailed a turkey! I slammed on brakes to have a look. There were two Toms fighting over a hen and they were more concerned with each other than with me. I grabbed the phone and took the video. Look closely in the center of the video, one turkey backs up and the other follows it and fans its tail feathers. Its a rare sight.

What a great day in the woods. Fresh mountain air, wildlife, offroading in my new car. Good times. Hope you enjoyed my little journey.

Thanks. We havent had much rain so the roads were dusty. There were a couple of muddy spots but crossing the two creeks washed of most of the mud splatter. Maybe I'll get her covered next time. ;D

I'm stoked about getting mine up there in Ellijay and Blue Ridge. My son is only 2.5 right now, so he'd be bored at a cabin. Maybe next year!

Those photos look fantastic, especially the field and the stream crossing with that raging waterfall.
