I've spent the last week or so doing research on anodized aluminum and how to simulate that cool blue finish you see on many third party accessories. Specifically wanted to do something with that bland plastic trim on the dashboard. Plasti dip was out because I wanted something permanent so that meant paint.
Krylon makes a really nice product called Metalcast that's basically a transparent paint with differing hues like red, gold and blue. Also if you really want this finish to last pick up some adhesion promoter. It's basically a clear primer that helps bond the paint to the surface. A good clear coat is also recommended.
Two coats of Krylon adhesion promoter.
Six light coats of Krylon Metalcast blue.
Four coats of Krylon matte finish clear coat.
10 to 20 minutes between coats.
