My Vehicle: 13 Subaru Crosstrek
Default '13 Crosstrek 49K probable trans issues

took my car to my subie specialist yesterday after I started hearing a "whirring" noise coming from the center of the car. at higher speeds it seems to go away, but lower speeds (especially coming to a stop) you hear it.

after a test drive, he comes back and told me he's fairly certain it's my transmission and suggested I take it to the dealer immediately.

Drove right over and had to make an appointment for this coming thursday. So I guess i'll get the official confirmation from them thursday.

Maintenance (including tire rotations) has been done on-time, I presume?

At 49,000 miles, that's too soon for any kind of driveline failure unless severe conditions were encountered.

yeah. being my first CVT....I"m not happy. i'm glad it was covered...but still.

I do use the paddles, mostly on the highway on ramps to merge on and sometimes "engine braking". I can't believe that would have contributed.

I doubt using the paddle shifters should have any significant effect. If anything, you just may have had a bad apple of a bearing in the transmission. Subaru Lineartronic CVT failures don't seem to be common.
