Default Auto up/down window switch

My window all of a sudden only does the auto up/down when it feels like it, instead of when I want it to.

Was the battery disconnected recently?

If so, you will need to reset your auto window switch as found on page 2-20 of the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek owner's manual. I highly recommend all members review and read their owner's manual, especially if a peculiar problem just like your current problem pops up.

Initialization of power window

If the vehicle's battery is disconnected due to situations such as battery or fuse replacement, the following functions are deactivated.
  • One-touch auto up/down function
  • Anti-entrapment function
Initialize the power window using the following procedures to reactivate these functions.
  1. Close the driver's door.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position
  3. Open the driver's side window halfway by pushing down the power window switch.
  4. Pull up the power window switch and close the window completely. Continue pulling up the switch for approximately 1 second after the window is closed completely.
  5. Open the driver's side window completely by fully pushing down the power windows switch.

Thanks. As stupid as this procedure seems I guess Subaru finds it necessary. I have never heard of anything like that in my life, which is why I didn't bother looking in the manual . . .

I'll take care of it now that I know

And... Sure enough the procedure works. I just don't understand why Subaru feels it is necessary? I have and had many cars that have this feature (windows and moonroof) for years. This is the first and only vehicle that I have ever had to do anything like this with.

Anyway, it's done now and works again.
