Default Spring Cleaning salt from floor carpet

Ok so my carpets looked horrible. Road salt isn’t just all salt anymore, it’s a combination of other things which are mostly calcium.
So the first instinct might be to use a clr type Lyme deposit cleaner.
Don’t this stuff is way to strong and will bleach the carpet.
You need to use house hold white vinegar diluted to at least 50%.
I also emptied two tall cans of salt neutralizer cleaning stuff.
I bought a nice stiff pan brush with handle.
Physically you need to scrub and vacuum all the loose debris first.
Then soak the areas of salt intensely with the vinigar water mixture. Wait ...... try the brush, does the salt goo move ? If no use more vinegar. Scrub repeat occasionally mopping up the foamy neutralized salt with some micro fibre cloths. Eventually the lumps will loosen an be removable. Wipe it down well to sop up as much as practical, use the spray can stuff to accelerate the process and to finish.
About half way through the job you will be an expert!

All the more reason to run rubber mats. What's kept you with the carpeted mats despite such conditions?

Also, about how long did the process take to perform the cleaning?

I’m getting fitted mats , weather tech or the like.
I got one of the first cross treks in September and they weren’t ready yet.

I got the husky mats !

They have better coverage than weather tech ones i had in my previous Impreza, covering both the dead pedal and fuel cover leaver.
They are also softer and feel a bit nicer under foot. These should do a good job of capturing the winter salt water and keeping it out of the carpets.
