My Vehicle: 2014 XV Crosstrek Sport Jasmine Green Metallic
Question unusual event with my 2014

So the other day the most unusual thing happened while i was out doing errands.
I unlocked my car and hopped in and started it and then the fog light indicator on
the dash and all the instrument back lighting started flashing on and off?
I could hear a relay clicking and nothing i did would get it too stop ?
I turned the car off removed the ignition key and restarted the car and still the
fog light indicator and all the dash backlighting still flashing and clicking away ?
I stopped the car again and got out too see if the fog lamps were actually flashing on and off but they were not.
I got back in the car and started it again and then it all stopped ? ? ?
So bizarre any one have any ideas ? ? ?
this is the first time the car has ever showed a quirk/issue in 4 years ?
I am baffled .
Any input would be appreciated.

That sounds like quite a strange electrical gremlin.

I would take it to a dealer and/or Subaru specialist shop, that is extremely strange.

well it was a one off event so far. so it will have to happen again before I would ever consider going to the ever so crooked stealership .I will only go to them if all other options have been tried.

Do you remember doing anything when you ingress/egressed the vehicle? Like step on the brake pedal or hit a door lock switch or let down the e brake? That sounds exactly like what happens when people do the Frisbee twins pedal dance. (Which doesn't work on our subies but does work on the FRSBRZ twins.

It's used to disable the stupid nannies that make cars unfun to drive. We don't have one (that we know about!), but on my old Honda Fit, there was a series of switches, buttons, and pedals that you activated in a certain order from the driver's seat. It would enable things like "auto locks" or "driver door unlocks when vehicle shut off". Once successfully done, all kinds of lights would flashes on the dash.

If this happens to you again, take a video with your smart phone. Post it on YouTube and tell us about it.

The "safety features" of a modern day car are only that- safety. Take them away and what you have left is a showy display of how a human can make an machine dance.
