Default What to do about corrosion on the front of the engine?

First thing I need to know is which of the metals are aluminum or magnesium.
Is the block aluminum or magnesium?

Iím experiencing non structural pitting and a white powdery ash on the alloy bits scattered around the engine bay including the engine block especially the timing chain cover.

Iím up in Toronto and they use a new leathal sticky spray salt with calcium. Itís possible that some corrosive residue is remaining after winter.

As an aside iím Getting the underside and engine bay passively sprayed with crown rustproofing (no holes drilled ). Is it worth it to spray some rust paint on the control arms first?

The new methods of pre salting and solution spraying can rot out any metal. I've been using the lanolin based undercoating spray. Pressure wash everything, then check out the video on YouTube and stop the oxidizing.
