Aweome I'm still looking for a place to go that's on thus side of the state. I know of one that's out by Pittsburgh but that's a bit of a long drive to get there. Do you know of any places?
A good place to start in the Pines is the Atsion ranger station on Rt. 206. You can pick up Quakerbridge road there to make your way into the forest.
Atsion Office, 744 US-206, Shamong, NJ 08088
Download (you won't get cell service in all areas) a map and don't go it alone. Stick to the marked trails / roads. Water crossings can be much deeper than you think. Most have go arounds.
Check out the fire tower on Apple Pie hill. On a clear day you can see Philadelphia and Atlantic City from the top.
Lunch at the Picalilli in Shamong is great for post wheeling eats.
It’s still legal, for now. The attempt to close it off failed a while back because the state didn’t properly notify the public of their intentions. They did close a bunch of roads to vehicles. They are clearly marked now. Vehicle must be registered and or inspected. No ATVs or similar off road toys. They don’t bother most people unless they have a reason to (trail destruction / partying). Then they look for things like tires sticking out past the fender.
Definitely. A good group to to check in with is disconnected offroad.com. Mostly local Jersey guys, a lot of jeeps, but they welcome all. Camping, wheeling etc. Hook up with them for a day of wheeling. They plan a lot of rides. They won't steer you wrong.
