Default Aftermarket head unit steering wheel control

Hi, I have a 2013 XV Crosstrek Limited without the navigation package.

I'm looking into installing an aftermarket head unit (a Sony XAV-AX100) and I saw on Amazon that it doesn't require a steering wheel control kit for the volume etc. buttons to function, just some "extra wire splicing".

Anybody know what wires need to be spliced where? I've seen the wiring guide on ae64.com and I know he sells harnesses, but if I can get a regular harness from Best Buy without SWC tied in and not have to wait for a special order, I'm fine with some extra crimping.

I've been lazy the last few times, and bought from Crutchfield, they provide wiring kits, bezels and full vehicle specific instructions. I seem to remember seeing the install guide before buying.

The SWC loom and writing harness for some reason did not use the built in mic.
