Well, in my case, Subaru did do something about it actually. One of my rears started making noise at 54k miles. Like you said, it seems to be a common Crosstrek issue. I was still in the 5 year/60k mile drivetrain warranty so they replaced them both for nothing. 4k miles later the fronts started making noise. Different dealer since we had moved, but they still replaced them both for nothing. I was just lucky enough that the known faulty bearings started making noise before warranty ran out. I didn't have to replace a wheel bearing on my Honda Accord until I was over 200k. Hoping these replacements last longer than the originals.
