I’ve got a 2014 crosstrek and the rear wheels are not spinning. I wouldn’t have even known if I hadn’t got stuck at the ski resort. No warning lights, no noises.
I jacked up the rear and both wheels spin along with the drive shaft. The only thing I can think of that’s been done since the last time I knew the AWD worked is brakes. The pads were a little tight going in. Could this cause a problem with the ABS? No ABS light.

Did you confirm by checking both sides simultaneously do not spin at the rear? If not, it's simply the open differential doing its thing, which requires continuous, steady accelerator pedal application to let VDC use the brakes to transfer torque to the wheels with grip.

Another important question, CVT or manual transmission?
