I've noticed that throughout various Subaru forums, there is a lot of confusion amongst enthusiasts regarding the chassis code of the two body styles of the 3rd generation widebody WRX and widebody-by-default WRX STI, which were sold in the USA from model years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

I've seen the misuse of the codes such as "GR narrow body Impreza" or "GR sedan".

Well, the below information should completely clarify this confusion amongst both Subaru enthusiasts and car enthusiasts in general:

3rd generation Subaru Impreza, WRX, WRX STI
GE 4-door sedan narrow body
(WRX from model year 2008, 2009, and 2010; WRX STI is widebody only)
GH 5-door hatch narrow body

(WRX from model year 2008, 2009, and 2010; WRX STI is widebody only)
GV 4-door sedan widebody
(WRX sedan switched to widebody beginning MY2011, sedan new for MY2011 for WRX STI, production overall began MY2011)

GR 5-door hatch widebody
(WRX STI, WRX hatch switched to widebody beginning MY2011)
