Growing up I never gave much though to naming a car. Until one day I was introduced to a Neon named, Max. It totally cracked me up so since then, I've been naming my cars.

My 2006 WRX was named, Chip because I bought him used and he had a paint chip on the passenger door. After it got totaled my wife and I bought a 2008 OBS which I named Chip Jr. But my wife called it Greg.

My 2013 XV is named, Ocho because he is my eighth car I've ever owned since I started driving.

What did you name your XV?

I've never been one to name my vehicles. My last girlfriend thought everyone should... but I refused.

I'd be more inclined if something humorous popped up, but typically I don't.

I actually usually do name mine, or friends will give them a name.

Saturn SL1 - no name
WRX - Silver Bullet (I know, generic)
G35 Sedan - Goro (the four-armed monster from Mortal Kombat)
Focus SVT - One-Toothed Manatee...my friend named this one cause he thought it was hideous. I only owned this car for a week or two before I got my money back for it (kept turning off while driving).
Outback Sport - The Red Baron
Crosstrek - ??? Nothing, yet. Usually it takes a few months before something comes up for me. I don't like to think about it, but rather just let it happen naturally.

Letting happen naturally is always best. I still think my car isn't an Ocho so who knows, it may morph into something or someone else.

It's been about 50/50 with my cars. If they earn a name they keep it otherwise they generally don't get a name. The most recent to be named was our F350 which ended up as white lightening!

I've been wondering about this, mostly because friends have been asking me what I'm going to name the car. If I don't come up with something, I've been warned that a couple of my friends are going to start calling it the General Lee, in honor of its color ... and that's not acceptable!

Yep, we always name our cars. And, having come from a family who built race cars and restored antique cars.. there were a lot of cars... and names along the way. My XV has had a couple of nick-names so far, but those sort of came from family members. So, I have not decided on her official name yet. We're still sort of getting to know each other. LOL.

It must be sort of expected people will name their cars, since so many car-sites have a space to fill it in on various forms. Like this forum, Fuelly and even the Subie Corporate site. Guess it's kind of like a boat.. it's bad luck if you don't name them. :)

We call our orange tangerine pearl Crosstrek TIGGER. It reminded us of a tiger (better than a pumpkin), especially with the contrasting black body side moldings. And the slightly bouncy ride is definitely "Tiggerish". A custom license frame, radio screensaver, key cover & fob, plus some cool head restraint covers we found on eBay complete the Tigger branding. We get some strange looks, but we love it.
