Just got in my new 2013 Crosstrek Limited W/Nav and Audio Upgrade #4

Kicker Audio Upgrade Package 4 (PIO) - $699
Powerd by Kicker window decal; Includes: [DCF] Tweeter Kit (PIO) And [DCG] Upgraded Speakers (PIO) And [DCM] 10" Powered Subwoofer w/Navigation (PIO)

When I ordered the vehicle I figured I might as well have the manufacturer install it so I know everything is right and the sound will be good. Or at least I thought so. I'm so disappointed with the sound quality. I basically have to disconnect the subwoofer to keep the body panels, doors, and windows from shaking and buzzing. Even with the the EQ and Sound adjusted to minimum sitting at a traffic light the rear view mirror vibrates so much you have trouble seeing the car behind you. The nav hu only has a couple of adjustments for eq and sound. I have yet to be able to figure out how to adjust it so it sounds good. After doing some reading I found that these items are port installed and it makes me wonder if they didn't connect something properly. Is this really what I am left with after paying $699? I have read other posts online with people even saying the stock system and speakers have good sound. Before I go complaining to the dealer I was wondering if anyone else has this same setup (nav with Upgrade #4) and if they are pleased?

Thanks,

DJ

You'll find people reporting that the subwoofer supplied by Kicker/Subaru is too loud/boomy. I've done just the tweeter and 4-door speaker install myself with the Kicker/Subaru upgrade and I'm very pleased. The base/stock system is pretty good, but distorts at louder volumes.

Re: Disappointed - Audio Upgrade #4 10" Kicker

I'm confused though isn't that the point of a subwoofer or can you not control it

Is the problem isolated to just the factory/Subaru installed sub-woofer or does the problem show itself in other sub-woofer installs as well? The reason I ask is I'm considering the Kenwood KSC-SW11 at some point down the road - but if it is the head unit that is the source of the problem I'd probably skip it. (Heck, I might not need it after I do the 6-speaker Kicker upgrade anyway..)

I'm thinking its just the Factory Sub Woofer. The speakers sound pretty good when I unplug the subwoofer but lack the base to really make them sound good.

some folks with the same issue are modding the sub with a knob to control the loudness. I have no idea how, but i read about it somewhere on here. try a search. good luck and I hope you get it sounding to your satisfaction.

I have the nav/moonroof package and even that was too much bass for me. Certain songs would shake my mirror. Even talk radio was unbearable. I had to adjust the equalizer to lower the bass levels.

That's disappointing and I have read other accounts of people saying the Kicker sub is just too much and can not be controlled. Maybe take it to the dealer and see what they have to say? If they don't offer any solutions you could always disconnect the sub and and sell it, then go with something else that is adjustable or no sub at all.

Also, I moved this over to the Audio subforum.

I have the full system upgrade of Kicker and love it. Yep.. my mirror bounces some. But, I really don't play it so loud that it causes it to that. Obviously depends on how loud you play and... what songs you play. As mentioned above, someone on here modded his Kicker Sub with a volume knob. So, that's a possibility too. To be honest.. Kicker systems are very good. I think it's the head unit and it's lack of ability to finely tune as needed. But that's another subject all together.
