Currently in the Yellowstone NP area. The speed limit in the park is generally 45 mph with some areas at only 25-35 mph. On this last tank of gas, I knew it was going to be good when cumulative readout said 43.7. Traveled 389.1 miles, filled the tank with 9.444 gallons and average speed was 35 mph (per the readout). That came to 41.2MPG! One thing to note is that due to the altitude (8500ft), I've been using 91 premium. Please click on my Fuelly sig below to see my stats.

Love Yellowstone but it takes forever to move about the park. I was there last summer with a mountain bike, "Useless" in Yellowstone....

Great MPG numbers.

My best is 34.7 (Actual Fuel Consumption Numbers) on a downhill drive from Reno, NV to Dana Point, CA...

Forgot to mention that all my fuel consumption numbers are manually calculated; the readout is is usually about 5-6% higher so I only use that as a guide when on the road.

Did it again but just barely. Drove 316.2 miles today and filled tank with 7.827 gallons; 40.4 mpg. Readout said 43.5 mpg and 39 mph average.

I manually calculated my best MPG at 40.1 MPG when I tailgated every single tractor-trailer on the interstates I-80, I-680, and I-880, and that's with my overweight and overequipped Crosstrek!

I think you've proven that the XV Crosstrek really likes the normal backroad speed limit-type of speeds. I've always easily gotten great MPG when driving on state routes that are scenic and mountainous with such speed limits.

Viewing my past results on Fuelly, the most I've ever filled up with was in July 2014; 14.638 gallons after traveling 505 miles. City type driving was estimated at 40%. Got 34.5 mpg. Previous best tank (before breaking the 40mpg barrier) was in Sept 2014 on a trip to Lava Butte and back. Drove 433.2 miles and filled with 11.024 gallons and achieved 39.3 mpg with only about 10% city type driving.

One number I started tracking recently (since May 7, 2015) is average mph for the tank. I've found that under the right conditions, with little or no city type driving, mid to high 30's mph is best for achieving great mpg. Anything below or above that, I start to get diminishing results.

I usually record the calculated MPG and display readout MPG to get a good comparison between the actual and estimated.

I think I'll start doing the same by also recording average speed... Hopefully, I can track down the perfect speed for maximum MPG on my commute.

How much effect would the AC have on your MPG performance.
Also, do y'all have any comments regarding the AC(cooling) and engine performance in the XV, specifically when engine is cold.

From my experience, the AC being on has as much as a 1-3 MPG decrease in overall MPG.

The AC cooling performance during a cold start in 70 degree Fahrenheit ambient temperature bring sufficient cooling performance. Do note that the HVAC filter (aka Cabin Filter) has to be changed every oil change, so if you haven't changed that lately, that can have an effect on AC performance.
