The coolant level in the reservoir tank of my 2014 XV had been slowly decreasing to the point where is was below the "minimum" mark. I always check the level when the engine is cool and had not noticed any leaks on the garage floor.

Took it to the dealer who said never to add anything except Subaru Super Coolant. Anything else will decrease the life of the radiator. Also, the chemistry of the Super Coolant makes it evaporate more quickly than older coolant.

I wanted to post this in case others have a similar situation.

P.S. I was going to buy a gallon of the Super Coolant for $26 but the tech said not to waste my money, he topped it off for me.

Agree with the dealer; let them top off for free rather than buy it yourself. The evaporating coolant is something that is known and the dealer is correct that you shouldn't mix over the counter coolant with it. Personally, if I was to ever change the coolant, I'd go with Evans Waterless Coolant.

A good dealership will check and top off the fluids for free when you take it in for service. I agree to save your money if the evaporation isn't causing a more serious problem.
