Will the 2.0 litre from a 2017 crosstrek be compatible with a 2014 crosstrek car, ecu and transmission?

Sorry Dave, I'm no help with your question but I know the 6 speed manual transmission swaps to a 2015 from another person's post.

I'm very curious as I'm sure many others would be, what's wrong with your engine and what's the milage you've got on it?
Not a definitive answer, but a quick search for an engine on the Car-Part.com site for a 2014 (using my 2014 VIN) only returns 2012 to 2014 Crosstrek's and Impresa's. A transmission and an ECU search just returns 2014's.

Under cruise control at 75, I started climbing a steep hill which caused a down shift. A just under 6k on the tac and sudden engine clatter right and left side.

You are right. Now I have to find an older motor and have a 2017 motor to sell
Like I said its not a definitive answer there maybe a way to do it. Seeing as you already have the 17 motor it might be worth a little more research, you might try here Subaru Mechanics | Facebook I just found it my thought was to find a independent Subie Shop and tell them what you want to do. When lead me to Google Subaru Mechanic and the FB group popped up. Id I read it right they have like 165 thousand followers must be something going on there
