I've currently got a 2000 Acura TL with 212k miles & am considering an XV to replace it this year.

I still need to make time to go down to the local Subie dealer & drive an XV. Curious on how it'll drive, being 77hp down from my TL.
A guy I know on another forum got an XV for a 3 day test drive & said he didn't feel under-gunned on the highway, so that's good to hear.
My wife drives a 115hp automatic Civic Sedan, & that's not terrible on the highway, so I don't imagine the XV feeling underpowered to me.

So, what did you drive before you got your XV?

My history:
1982 Mercedes-Benz 240D 4AT - Rear ended by an F-150. I was doing 15mph, he was doing 40-50mph. Totalled @ over 300k miles.
1982 Mercedes-Benz 300SD 4AT - Sold before moving off for college, over 300k miles.
1996 Saturn SL2 4AT - Wrecked twice. 2nd accideent, got t-boned by a Ford Escape, totalled @ over 200k miles.
1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe 5MT - Sold after trans went out & was replaced, just never drove the same, only car I've ever owned that had under 100k on it, sold at 130k miles.
1996 Infiniti J30 4AT - Only drove for 6-8 months. Had it when Hurricane Ike came through TX & gas hit over $4/gal for premium & I was a broke college student. Never ran right on plus, started knocking, so premium only.
1993 Honda Accord SE Sedan 4AT - Bought for $200 with a blown engine. Drove for 2.5 years, donated to a family that needed it when I got my TL, had 260k on it.
2004 Honda Civic LX Sedan 4AT (wife's car)
2000 Acura TL-P 5AT - Bought with blown trans, replaced trans & it's been great. A/C went out at the end of the first summer I had it, only problem I've had so far.

Also had an '87 Chevrolet Suburban 350 while I had the 2 Benzes, drove it if one of them had to be in for service.

1994 Ford Tempo. Good car for what it was. Got it when it was 6 years old as my first car - manual transmission with low mileage.

2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. Had its problems, but overall I can't complain. Wouldn't own another one, though she did treat me well. She lasted me 8 years before she keeled over.

I don't yet have my new XV (any time now, though...), but I certainly don't think it will be a step down from either of these two cars...

Gave up a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport, 436 HP. Quite the difference in oomph. :) But I also ride a 2007 Suzuki Bandit 1250 at 100 HP and 80 pounds of torque, so my need for speed is easily soothed.

1993 Saturn SL1 - actually a good car. I got it in 2002 as my first car, a hand me down from my brother. It was a 5MT and for some reason I was quite sad when I sold it, even though I was getting a...

2003 Subaru WRX - AWESOME car. So much fun to drive. Small and agile and powerful, no complaints about it. However, the AC eventually died and it was getting up there in mileage and I was moving cross-country to California and sold it for a...

2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan - Another great car. Definitely bigger than the WRX so it was easier to move with, and had an auto transmission which I was grateful for in Los Angeles traffic. However, I kind of got screwed on it from the previous owner that was in an accident in it and did not report it. This cause a few problems that were quite annoying, though I don't blame them on Infiniti. I sold it and got a...

2007 (?? I think) Ford Focus SVT - Thing was butt ugly but pretty fun to drive with the 6MT. However, I only had it two weeks because it kept turning off while driving and the dealer/Ford couldn't figure it out. I got very lucky with this as they gave me a full refund of the vehicle and I purchased a...

2003 Outback Sport - Mainly got this because it had a little room and was cheap so I didn't have payments. It was a good car but definitely underpowered -- trips to the mountains were no fun. Turns out the car was originally from somewhere up North where the snow/salted roads killed it. Over the course of last year it started literally rusting apart and I was spending more cash on it at the mechanic than I would be on a new...

Before my Crosstrek:

2010 Toyota Tacoma Off-Road. Awesome truck, terrible gas mileage. I rolled it three times at freeway speeds and walked away.(story is in my introduction).

2002 Ford Escape: I still have it as a backup vehicle. 145k and still going strong.

2002 Passat: Company car, nice car, but I liked the Jetta below better.

2000 Jetta: company car, very nice

Lets see,

1995 Ford Taurus SHO - My first car in high school, was fun to drive and I could fit all my friends in it, then my mom wrecked it and I ended up blowing the head gasket =(, sold it when we moved to Japan

1989 Honda Ascot - My first car in Japan, was a decent little sedan that I got for free from some friends (can get cars dirt cheap from military leaving the island) it had a horrible roach infestation at one point so I had to bug bomb it. The day after I first drove it over 100mph the engine literally blew up, oops!

1996 Mitsubishi Pajero (Japan) - I loved this truck! It was a 2 door convertible 4x4 does it get any cooler than that? I did my first 4 wheel driving in this truck and learned a lot. This was back when gas was still $1.40 at the pump so driving with bad gas mileage was ok.

1995 BMW 318 - My first car after I moved back to the states and was out of high school, I always wanted a nice sporty RWD car that was relatively affordable. Well this was affordable, until it broke down the first time, the tensioner pulley broke all of a sudden on the highway and it took the air compressor and several other parts with it this cost almost $2000 to fix, my A/C never quite worked the same after this and this car ended up falling apart left and right. In the middle of my second hot Texas summer I got tired of melting to the pleather seats and I happened to spot this crazy truck from the future at a random car lot in the middle of nowhere, so I traded in this hoopty as soon as I could for...

1999 Isuzu VehiCross - My other favorite 4X4 - I'm not sure if I liked this or the Pajero more, but this too was an awesome looking fun to drive truck that I took offroading almost weekly. I unfortunately probably drove this rare vehicle harder than I probably should have so little things started to pop up here and there so it's reliability was dropping fast and the gas prices were starting to get to me...

And finally, my first new car/car made in this millennium, that I think takes all of the best features of my experience with my previous cars and mashes them into one:

You've had a couple of interesting cars in your past. I used to really want a VehiCross but I heard they weren't too reliable overall.

2011 Mazda 3 2.5L Sport hatch - Perfect car. Killed by an uninsured van driver last week :(
2003 Ford Explorer - Like too many Fords it was great until about 60-70,000 miles. Pretty much garbage after that. My last Ford ever.
2000 Ford F150 Reglar Cab - Red flareside. Comfortable and fun. Not super reliable unfortunately.
1996 Chevy S-10 - Manual base model. Cheap. Developed a lot of electrical problems at the end. The windshield wipers would only work when it WASN'T raining.
1979 VW Rabbit - Bought it with 200,000 miles on it. Took it over 300,000 with no major issues. Looked new when I traded it in for 3x what I paid for it.
1987 Ford Taurus - First generation. Really liked this car. Not sexy but comfortable and reliable. Lost it when a driver ran a red light and hit my driver's side door at 45mph. I guess it was relatively safe too.
1984 Mercury Cougar - Cool interior for the time. Not much good after 60-70k miles.
1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme - Amazing car. Fast, comfortable, and fun to drive. Had a 305 with a massive Quadrajet carb and other mods. I eventually beat it to death but it was tough.

1991- Ford Fiesta. This car went through my three older siblings before it got to me, then died in an intersection on my way home from school.

1989- Ford Escort. I had this car for a while then while way at college my parents went to get it inspected and it failed due to frame damage.

1995- Tracer Wagon. I ended up giving this to my brother as an extra car.

1999- VW Jetta 5-speed fully loaded. At the time it needed a new clutch and we didn't want to pay for it so we sold it.

2006 Mazda 3: I was not a great driver in the snow and we got rid of it.

2008 Kia Sportage: I hated this car but it was a cheap answer to no 4WD during the winter

2010 Toyota Rav4: We moved to MA and bought this. I loved this car and it was great while we had it. Then the "buy-a-new-car bug" and we bought a...

2011 Jetta TDI: Loved it but we wanted to cut back on our payment.

2012 Ford Fusion SE: My grandfather worked for Ford so we got this super cheap. It showed in the sturdiness of the vehicle. My horn exploded while driving, my sync system did not function, my transmission was very jumpy, and the fan to my heater was going. It was after this that we got the....

2013 Subie XV Crosstrek: We had VIP pricing sooooooo again great price!

Explain this VIP pricing. What is it and how did you get it?!

VIP pricing is a program through Subaru HQ where there is a pre-negotiated price of dealer cost minus 2%. We were able to obtain this through a friend of my husbands who works at Subaru HQ.

They also offer the program through certain marketing partners. It is fantastic!

Spam is a lot more prevalent/difficulties deal with than the average poster realizes.

That said, the verification goes away at 10 posts.

With all the cars I've owned we could feasibly open a rental company. But I was daily driving a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited on 35's until I got the Crosstrek. Needles to say this is a much better daily driver!

How did the Jetta hold up for you? I've heard both extreme ends of the spectrum on VWs.
The Jetta was fantastic. Never had an issue from day one... just a little on the expensive side for maintenance and insurance. The 2.5l 5 speed manual combo proved to be the way to go for a fun, responsive and zippy ride.

I just feel much better about my bride driving an AWD vehicle in the nasty weather we get here during the winter months.

Good man for looking out. The AWD and general safety of Subarus is hard to beat.
