Can someone explain in simple terms when I can use xmode on icy snowy conditions? Does it only work in certain mph speeds?

Think of x mode as your snowbank button or unploughed drive way button.

“While X-Mode can be activated at speeds below 25 mph, it becomes operational at 18 mph and below.”

It is essentially a recalibration of the already inherent traction control and awd.
I’ve seen a video with a Subaru driving by with, and again without it on in snow.
Wheel hop and over spin are dampened and the car rolled along in a seemingly easier manner.
Also you can combine it with the manual setting on the cvt.
And one gets 2 fixed low gears with engine breaking + x-mode.
