First time dealing with CVT, Subaru does not make it easy with all the differing types AND dealer parts/service department not very confident in what to use except for whatever is in that $400 5 gallon bucket that may or may not void my extended warranty.

2023 Crosstrek Sport w/CVT (non-manual T690 transmission)
Just hit 36,000 so would like to do DIY preventative maintenance drain and fill of gear oils: CVT, FRONT DIFF and REAR DIFF.

I just need confirmation of OEM fluids for each mechanism and possible aftermarket alternatives.

I’m mechanically inclined and have done a lot of research, but still hesitant with what is appropriate for my specific application for the CVT. Diff fluid for both front and rear 75w-90 API GL-5 seems more straightforward.

Anyone have first hand knowledge or experience with TR690 CVT fluid and which OEM # or best aftermarket alternatives to use? Specifically for 2023 Crosstrek Sport? I know it may be few and far between since we all may be just hitting the recommended maintenance interval/3 years from purchase.

Thanks in advance!

I run Amsoil CVT fluid in our 2025 Wilderness and run Amsoil Signature Series 75w-85 in front and rear diffs.
Redline fluids would work well too.
I do not follow OEM recommendations for Subaru branded fluids as I worked in R&D level fluids business for 45 years. Idemitsu fluids made for Sube are adequate but I prefer better fluids.
The driveline fluids really woke up our MPG and smoothness, lower CVT temps on the 2025 Wilderness.

thanks for the info! Finally found the updated Subaru ATF chart with year/model/engine which is what the dealership parts department couldn’t…CVTF-III as you said, now I can start looking at those non-oem alternatives (y)
