Want opinions on where you would start soundproofing your car. My goal would be reduced interior noise driving, more peaceful. I have maybe 20sqft of adhesive soundproofing material.
Also would consider improving door seals, if anyone has any tips on that, to reduce wind noise.
So where?
  • under headliner
  • under carpet
  • under door panels
  • trunk area
  • hood
Let me know what you think

Whoa.... that'll be a tall order as well as time consuming, if you wanna do it correctly.
You'd need to pull out the interior completely, to install & apply soundproofing material.
At the minimum.... hit all your door panels for sure.

I did my doors when I upgraded the speakers on my '22 Limited and it helped some but wouldn't say it helped A LOT but is noticeable. I thought about doing the floor but you would have to remove the seats, console and carpet. When I was looking at installing my own amp, under the passenger's seat and was running the wiring, I realized the carpet has the insulation attached to it, rather than on the actual metal pan. On mine, there is an air gap of about 3/8"-1/2" between the metal pan and carpet, that could take some additional insulation and help with the road noise some. I will say, compared to my wife's 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport, my Crosstrek is Leaps and Bounds ahead of it in road noise.

I spent $500 on quality soundproofing and did the four doors. The doors sound like a Mercedes when they close. I was expecting a dramatic drop in noise but it didn't happen. I do think it helped but was not equal to the cost and time. Less insulation in the doors would have worked just as well. In my opinion the number one source of noise come from the road noise/tires which suggests that insulating the tire wells would solve a lot of the noise issues. Next would be under the carpets including the trunk. The hood and firewall between the engine and the cabin would help. Mine is a 2018 Premium. Subaru could spend $200 on soundproofing and fix it. Double paned windows would pay off big time. It's my understanding that the 2023 has improved noise control but I will have to hear it to believe it. The Crosstrek is an incredible vehicle and it should never have noises like it has.
